There is a day coming that you, like most parents, may not like facing. It is the day when your children leave home and you have an empty nest. Your children will have all grown and moved away. It feels like just yesterday when they were little children, playing in their childhood home. Now you are left feeling fairly lost and alone. It may feel hard and unbearable, but there is a way to move through this phase of life smoothly.

Just because your children move out in no way means that the relationship you have with them has to end. It merely changes. Your relationship will transition from a parent/child relationship to more of a peer friendship. Your children will not depend on you for the same type of assistance they needed when they were small. As the relationship grows and matures, they may have something to offer to you, now that they are grown. You can both learn things from one another as long as you are both open to the idea. Don't become an invisible parent. Although they are grown, your children will need your love and occasional guidance. Whether you are happy or sad your child has left, the fact remains that you will always be a parent.

Your child moving out of the house can present you with a new opportunity to get reacquainted with your spouse. When you have children in the house, time alone with your spouse can be rare. You'll have more time now to focus on each other and to get reacquainted. You have an opportunity to do all of the things that you wanted to do before, but couldn?t. Unleash your inhibitions and have fun with your spouse. You may just find that your child leaving the home helps to bring the spontaneity and romance back into your relationship. You can get the same advantages if you are single. You can use your newfound free time as the perfect excuse for going out and meeting new people. You just may find love in the process.

It?s hard to fulfill your adult fantasy of travelling around the world or launching a potentially risky home business when you have children to care for. These dreams can now come true.

Time is always at a premium when you're raising children. When they have moved on to start families of their own, you will have all the time you want to do the things you have dreamed about doing while you wait for grandchildren to steal your heart a second time around. With more time on your hands, you can consider advancing your education, finally working on your novel or taking the time out to exercise more regularly.

Before you make any big decisions that will tip your world upside-down, you should take a few weeks or months to get used to your new life. Of course, you are free to contact your children. They'll probably be having a hard time adjusting to their new lives, too. It may take a while to adjust, so give yourself that leeway. Once you and your children are used to the new order of life, it's time for some excitement! Savor the new experiences and joys this aspect of life can bring. Your job as a parent of little ones is complete. You did a good job preparing your child for what was ahead. Now it?s time for you to have a different kind of fun.
Tue, 17 Apr 2012 02:55:09 GMTKarilynnHaase513http://beta.aalf.org/wiki/index.php?title=Talk:KarilynnHaase513
