Millions of men (and a smaller number of women) suffer with hair loss
or thinning hair on their heads, only to be cursed with large amounts of body hair.
A friend of mine once called it a distribution problem, but unwanted body hair can be a
social trauma for some people. Getting rid of unwanted body hair has become a billion
dollar a year industry because of this trauma.

No one can control where hair will grow on the human body or where it will fall out and
fail to grow. Hucksters and charlatans have preyed on the fears of people losing their
hair by promising miracle cures, potions, pills and creams but time has proven them all
to be frauds. Recent medical advances have shown some erratic success growing hair with
Rogaine but science is still stumped by the human bodys refusal to grow hair when and
where it is wanted. Luckily for those suffering from too much hair, new treatments have
been developed to get rid on those unwanted clumps of body hair.

Body hair takes on many shapes and forms and can cause social trauma, especially for
children and young adults. Teasing by peers can force kids to hide, drop out of
activities and develop complexes that are harmful to their mental health. Unfortunately
children can be destructively cruel to other children and body hair can be the perfect
target for taunting. Puberty can be tough enough without having your body conspire
against you and put hair where you dont want it.

There are three basic techniques for removing body hair. First and most common is
shaving. The plusses with shaving are obvious-you can do it at home, you dont need
special equipment, you can shave only what you want shaved and it is usually pain free.
The downside of shaving is that it is temporary. The hair will grow back and the area you
shaved may become itchy as the growth matures. Some areas of your body, such as your
back, arent reachable on your own and you may need help shaving that area.

The second most common treatment is hair removal creams. Brands such as Revitol have
created easy-to-use creams that can be applied and then scraped away about 30 minutes
after application. The creams work by softening the hair and its follicle and allowing
the hair, root and all, to be removed by a razor or cloth. Once again you have the
benefit of privacy but you also have the benefit of permanent hair removal for most of
the hairs removed. However, creams dont seem to be able to remove all of the hair that
you are trying to get rid of and multiple applications may be necessary.

Laser hair removal and electrolysis have become more common with the desire for permanent
hair removal. Both treatments require multiple visits to the provider and can involve
some discomfort, but the end result is a permanent removal of the unwanted hair. For
years women have used these techniques for bikini treatments but they are now available
for most types of hair removal. Cost can also be a factor with laser hair removal.
The equipment used to perform the removal is costly and you may find yourself having
20 or more treatments to completely remove the hair that is bothering you.

You now have a wide variety of options to help you get rid on body hair. Whether you
want to get rid of chest hair, back hair, facial hair or other unsightly growths, you
can choose what type of treatment fits into your budget and needs. While I agree with
my friend who says human hair growth is all a problem of distribution, it is nice to be
able to get rid of unwanted body hair.
Mon, 19 Mar 2012 00:59:53 GMT CherylGrundy http://beta.aalf.org/wiki/index.php?title=User_talk:CherylGrundy
