People that play basketball are always impressed with high vertical leaping - they want to do it for themselves! Well now you can. If you think becoming a high-performance player just happens, you're wrong! It is always the ones that work the hardest that can do the most astounding things. It is important that you commit to doing well and staying positive when trying to do this. Whatever doubts you have, or negative thoughts - get rid of them as soon as you can.

Make sure your training gets you to your goals, we have included three powerful workouts in this article. There's more to this, but these are solid and then you begin working.

If you are serious about improving your basketball game, then you should think about doing specific exercises for your vertical leaping skills. Some players have a naturally high vertical leap but most do not, a fact that many players find comforting. It's not always possible to play the game itself but you are always free to exercise and work on building up your vertical leaping strength. It's important to be as patient as you can be with this process because what you are actually doing here is building up your muscle strength. So what you can do is make a schedule of the training workouts you want to do and then stick to them religiously.

You can break the physics of the jump into three distinct actions and then either work on one at a time or all three at once. Jumping involves power and there are some things that will influence that power. It takes a certain level of power to get off the ground and increase the speed at which you jump. That involves a fast twitch muscle response which you can train for with certain exercises. There is also your basic leg strength--including each major muscle group in each leg. You can do some specific things to raise the range over which you can exert your power. Improving in one area will make a difference and all three will be much better.

A terrific way to build your rebounding ability and also work on your fast twitch muscle response is to do box jumping. Get some type of box to jump off of. Make sure it is sturdy. You simply jump up and down off of this box to exercise.

Naturally, the higher the box the more difficult it will be. And this has to be a box that you are able to jump onto without much difficulty. So the exercise is simply this: you jump off of the box, and the moment you hit the ground, jump back on it. As with any type of leg training, always do a proper amount of stretching and warm-up before you start.

We have all seen players who seemed to have no need for doing any extra to make their vertical leaps more impressive and higher. Yes, some will be able to do this naturally but there are not many people who have this ability. If you lack that natural ability, then forget about it and get to work on using all those techniques for improvement. By working hard to get better than you currently are, you can compensate for a lack of natural ability.
