I recently received a message from one of the named online marketing experts proclaiming that Internet Marketing is not a Serious Online business. He went on to take the position that if you are a part of internet affiliate marketing, you are not an authentic business person or entrepreneur simply because you will offer digital products written by other people. Within his point of view, the fact that you aren't the creator of the item you're offering will mean you are not an authentic businessman.
I take exception with his posture. If his particular position were correct lots of small businesses like the local convenience store, shoe store, greeting card store, etc. would not be perceived as real businesses since they do not manufacture the products they offer. Actually big merchants just like Sears and Wal-Mart may not be considered legitimate businesses since they don't create the products they offer.

There's only one problem that I recognize in online marketing that is the fact the majority of people that get involved in affiliate marketing are not seasoned business professionals and they do not understand the basic principle of business. That doesn't mean they are bad people or stupid. What it means is that they haven't been properly educated in running a business.
To be successful in the affiliate marketing business and also other business will require the person entering that business to have a clear idea of the business they are entering. One way to do that is to model other successful business owners that are running the same kind of business they are setting up.
When starting an Affiliate Marketing business, do not rush into it, relax and be diligent. Don’t believe these sales letters you read where the person says that he earned thousands of dollars in a single day. Now I’m not saying that they didn't earn 1000s of dollars overnight but what are they not telling you? They are not saying what they did before they made that type of income. You could bet money on the fact these people did tons of investigation in to the business of affiliate marketing and in the niche they were selling to. They did not simply wake up some day and in a couple of hours put a course together, developed a website, uploaded it to their web server and started the cash stream of 1000s of dollars the day after. It just does not happen!

I think, Affiliate Marketing is probably the most effective businesses you can get involved with. This is a business accessible to everybody, no matter what your financial situation is. You just need to do your research previous to launching your business.

Just one advice I'd make is for you to take a look at a number of the many online forums discussing Online Marketing. Just do a Google Search for “Affiliate Marketing Forums”. Take a week or two logging onto these discussion boards and observe the progress of other people. Then pick a number of online forums that you think provide you with the information you're searching for and become a member of them. You'll find many amazing people on those forums who are very happy to answer questions you might have. Only one thing. Make sure that you have read through other postings on the forum about the topic you are thinking about before you ask your question. A lot of the time you'll find that someone had the same doubt and the answers to that question are already posted. You can also ask members of the community forum to direct you to more information on the subject you're searching for. If you follow these tips, you can find your experience on these forums to be exceptional!
