| + | Papert's book Mindstorms was released in 1980. It has two central themes: that children can learn to use computers in a masterful way and that learning to use computers can change the way they learn everything else. In 1994, he released "The Children's Machine: Rethinking School in the Age of the Computer" in which he makes the case for computers as a primary route to knowledge, revising and expanding earlier observations in view of disappointing school policies of the past dozen years. He notes that although many areas of human activity have been changed by science and technology, school is not one of them. In both books, Papert illustrates his points both through personal observations made in the hundreds of schools he's visited and through thinking about his own thinking and learning. | ||
